FERI4Education: Sustainability as an educational opportunity

FERI4Education: Sustainability as an educational opportunity

Sustainability as a (professional) opportunity for the future

Sustainability offers an incredible number of possibilities and opportunities for the future that many people are unaware of. And this is exactly where we come in with “FERI4Education.” We want to raise awareness of this as early as possible, i.e. at school. Together with the non-profit association B.L.U.E. Germany, we have developed a workshop concept under the direction of Antje Biber (Head of FERI SDG Office and founding member of B.L.U.E. Germany) to introduce students to the topic of sustainability in all its facets.

Education as an important basis for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Both FERI and B.L.U.E. are convinced that education is an important basis for realizing the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Only those who are informed about sustainability can act sustainably. Unfortunately, however, this topic is currently hardly addressed in our secondary schools. Although it is still part of the primary school curriculum, it virtually disappears from the scene after the 5th grade. We want to change that with #FERI4Education!

Young people as sustainability ambassadors

During the workshop day, participating students become sustainability ambassadors. This means that they then pass on their knowledge at school in order to get as many of their classmates as possible excited about the topic of sustainability. This means they benefit twice from this project: on the one hand, they work together to develop potential new training opportunities – a factor that should not be neglected, especially after COVID-19 and the resulting structural change and declining demand in traditional occupational fields. On the other hand, they gain valuable experience that they too can make a difference.

About B.L.U.E. Germany e.V.

The association's name, B.L.U.E. – Better Learning and Understanding the Environment – stands for the idea of linking education, environmental protection, and sustainability, getting involved, and supporting projects directly related to these issues. B.L.U.E. e.V. selects its projects personally and knows the people and those responsible on site. In addition to fundraising and charity campaigns, the association offers lectures and seminars on sustainability topics at universities and schools. With its own BLUE projects, the association aims to promote understanding of sustainability and nature conservation, especially among children and young people.
