The battle for the Arctic – Global race for raw materials, power, and strategic dominance

The battle for the Arctic – Global race for raw materials, power, and strategic dominance

The Arctic is becoming the new center of geopolitical power games. Climate change and polar ice melt are opening up new shipping routes and previously inaccessible raw material deposits. The consequences of this dynamic are explosive and are changing the world order: economically, in terms of security policy, and geostrategically.

The ever-faster melting of polar ice caps is creating new realities. Russia and China in particular are making targeted use of the new opportunities: China is shortening trade routes to Europe and North America, while Russia is expanding its military sphere of influence in the far north. The US is also responding – with its desire to “take over” Greenland! Europe is thus finding itself caught in a “geopolitical vice” without even realizing the full implications.

The latest Cognitive Briefing from the FERI Cognitive Finance Institute analyzes the complex interactions between climate change, geopolitical conflicts, economic opportunities, and security risks.

The analysis illustrates why the Arctic is no longer a peripheral ice desert, but a new focal point of global power politics!

The analysis “Kampf um die Arktis” can be downloaded in German from the download area on this page.
