National Reading Day 2023

Over a million children and adults read together this year under the motto “Reading aloud connects” on the 20th Bundesweiter Vorlesetag (nationwide reading day). An absolutely impressive number of participants! And we were there again, too.

We were equally impressed by the speed with which our colleagues responded to the internal call for our reading campaign with the Kinderschutzbund (Child Protection Association) in Bad Homburg. It took less than 30 minutes for all the “positions” to be filled. All the readers share the conviction that reading aloud is important for child development. It connects people, creates closeness, and is a crucial prerequisite for learning to read well yourself.

Last year, we saw how a “small” campaign like this can have a lasting effect. In addition to another reading day and an Advent reading celebration, one of our colleagues decided to become a a long-term reading mentor with the Kinderschutzbund. We are excited to see what follow-up projects will result from the reading day in the future.
