FERI is a byword for comprehensive, individual, transparent and sustainable advice and support for private clients. With over 30 years of experience, we offer private investors a wide range of asset management services.

Sustainability is not only a socio-political imperative. For FERI, it also includes a clear commitment to shared social responsibility as a financial services provider. This is why FERI places the sustainable development goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations General Assembly (UN) at the forefront of sustainability considerations in all its investment solutions and advisory services.

With the help of an asset liability management study, FERI can show you whether a financing system in its current form is sustainable and whether sufficient risk carriers are available or whether a modification of the system is advisable.

During the transition to a sustainable future, FERI guides and supports you in the implementation of a sustainability concept and in the implementation and further development of existing solutions.

FERI’s comprehensive support ranges from optimal asset allocation and investment planning to appointing managers, reporting, monitoring and controls. Clear structures always ensure well-documented decisions and transparent investments.

FERI carries out a cost check in three steps and determines the costs for mandates, depositaries and investment management. In times of persistently low interest rates, these are a key factor in the performance of any portfolio.

FERI uses the three-step manager check to assess the quality and performance of asset managers.

FERI evaluates current portfolios in terms of expected returns and risk and checks whether the allocation still meets the requirements regarding yield and available risk budget. In addition, FERI presents you with alternative portfolios that promise higher returns with the same risk or offer similar opportunities for returns with reduced risk.

To ensure the success of the investment, FERI provides guidance on risk management processes. These range from the preparation of a risk manual and risk inventory to regular reporting and commentary.

In order to identify the risk sources and their distribution in the portfolio of an investment, FERI prepares a risk sheet, which makes this information transparent and clear. It clearly shows what share of the overall risk is attributable to the individual investment funds, segments and asset classes.

FERI offers its clients the entire process of investment consulting and has been continuously developing it since the 1990s. Thanks to its extensive experience, self-developed systems and access to almost 200 employees in all areas of the investment process, FERI creates significant added value for its clients through its range of consulting services.

The FERI family office is the strategy advisor for your assets. We offer services ranging from strategic asset planning, implementation consulting and results monitoring and controls, through risk management and asset protection strategies to sustainability consulting.

FERI Cognitive Finance Institute - How the Pandemic Exposes opulism

Bad Homburg, 03/26/2020
from FERI Cognitive Finance Institute
  • Political systems decisive for the consequences of the Corona crisis
  • FERI Cognitive Finance Institute analyses consequences for political maps
  • Trump's re-election called into question by Corona

The dramaturgy of the CoViD19 pandemic will be shaped to a considerable extent by how politicians deal with the new threat. Dr. Heinz-Werner Rapp, founder and director of the FERI Cognitive Finance Institute is convinced of this. The fact that countries such as the USA, Great Britain and Brazil are now facing medical catastrophes of particular proportions is also due to the respective political systems. "All the countries mentioned have recently been ruled by populists," says Rapp. The basic attitude of populists is that external influences and complex problems are always negated, played down or defamed as "fake news". As a result, news about CoViD19 was suppressed for a long time or denigrated as "scaremongering" by the respective political opponent in the countries mentioned. "Valuable time to prepare against the pandemic has thus simply been wasted through political ignorance, stupidity or incompetence," stresses Rapp.

Populist Behaviour Patterns Demand a High Price

Through his approach of "deconstruction", the American president in the first years of his term in office also deliberately thinned out important authorities - for example, for health care and disaster control - and dismissed office heads without a full replacement. "Scientific arguments were suppressed or banned by decree," says Rapp. An efficient and rational administration - the backbone of efficient political action, especially in times of crisis - was systematically dismantled by Trump shortly before the CoViD19 pandemic. "These typically populist behaviour patterns will ultimately demand a very high price," Rapp is convinced. At the same time, CoViD19 could massively change the political map of the Western world: In particular, a re-election of Donald Trump, recently still very likely, could be called into question by a possible worsening of the situation (US recession and massive medical crisis, exacerbated by incompetence and poor crisis management of the US president).

Reputation of Experienced Politicians Rises Again

Due to their grossly negligent handling of CoViD19 , Boris Johnson (Great Britain) and Jair Bolsonaro (Brazil) could also come under massive pressure. "Against the background of the acute crisis in Europe, the announced BREXIT will by no means take place in the way that Boris Johnson has announced," Rapp is convinced. In general, it can be assumed that the force of the CoViD19 pandemic will soon expose the banal promises of many populists and discredit them massively for some time to come.

The political playing field of entire nations could change dramatically under the pressure of the crisis. This aspect is particularly true for the USA in the election year 2020, but could also redistribute the cards in the German election campaign in 2021. "As current surveys already show, the reputation of experienced politicians is rising again in this country, while talk-show conversationalists and other political lightweights are likely to have a tough time," stresses Rapp. When selecting possible candidates for chancellor, good management and credible communication in the CoViD19 crisis will probably be more important than clever tactics in political back rooms.

As early as 2018, the FERI Cognitive Finance Institute published a highly acclaimed study on the effects of increasing populism on politics, the economy and society. This was followed in 2019 by an analysis of the "Risk Factor USA - The Problem of the Un-United States of America". Both papers are available for download (in German) on the website of the FERI Cognitive Finance Institute (https://www.feri-institut.de/media-center/studien/).
