In turbulent financial times, when traditional investment strategies fail to work properly, alternative sources of returns such as private equity investments need to be explored. With FERI, private and institutional investors can navigate all the rapids in this market and benefit from over 20 years of experience and more than 130 successful private equity investments.
In the current low-interest environment, alternative strategies are indispensable. Private equity investments provide you with an alternative income component with attractive returns that contributes to portfolio diversification and stabilisation.
FERI has many years of experience and a proven track record in analysing private equity funds and managing private equity portfolios. Over the past 20 years, we have carried out more than 130 private equity investments worldwide, making us one of the largest German private equity investors. This gives us excellent access to top-class managers and top investment funds, and it gives us a strong negotiating position.
FERI invests in corporate private equity (buyout, growth financing, credit strategies), corporate property strategies, infrastructure and private debt.
Our clients in this area include institutional investors and family offices, for whom we manage funds of funds and offer tailor-made managed-account solutions.
In principle, FERI makes primary investments in private equity funds and selectively acquires equity interests via the secondary market. This enables the cash flow profiles of private equity portfolios to be optimised.
Institutional clients also benefit from tailor-made administrative solutions, managed accounts and advisory services. The private equity portfolios are managed by in-house teams in Germany and Luxembourg. In addition, FERI can also serve existing platform solutions from external providers via advisory mandates.
For many companies, private equity represents an attractive source of financing for the implementation of important projects and the achievement of strategic corporate goals. In addition to pure financial investments, companies particularly appreciate the operational expertise and management support provided by private equity firms. Since the beginning of 2000, FERI has been investing in buyout, growth and turnaround strategies with a strong focus on small and medium-sized companies. Right from the outset, we have been focusing on the small-cap sector and niche strategies, such as rising managers (i.e. funds of the first or second generation managed by experienced private equity managers), due to their attractive risk/return profile.
Private equity is one of the most profitable asset classes and has been an integral part of the total assets of the world’s largest investors for decades.
Infrastructure is typically a physical facility designed to maintain or improve the economic and social performance of a community and supervised by regulatory oversight. Following the historical market leaders of Australia and Canada, the infrastructure asset class is becoming increasingly important for investors.
Infrastructure offers a high level of value stability and a broad range of investment strategies due to its real assets. Conservative investors see their investment goals best achieved with stable, ongoing returns in the core infrastructure strategies. This asset class offers more profit-oriented investors an increase in value typical of private equity from the development, construction and/or refurbishment/modernization of an infrastructure property. Since income is partly linked to inflation, correlation and volatility of the investment value are low. Various investment horizons are possible, from 5 to 25 and more years.
In this investment segment, FERI offers both managed-account solutions and advisory services for institutional investors.
Entrepreneurial property investments are investment strategies that focus on property value enhancement potential (known as value-added and opportunistic property investments).
The asset allocations of experienced private and institutional investors often tend to strongly favour their home markets, and especially the core property sector. As an addition to the property portfolio, entrepreneurial property investments offer the opportunity to significantly increase the yield potential.
Since 2008, FERI has been investing in entrepreneurial property funds in Europe, the USA and selectively in other regions. This means our investments are broadly diversified across this asset class and cover a wide range of individual properties, regions and property segments. Our investors can nevertheless significantly increase their expectations of earnings in the property sector.
In this investment segment, we offer both funds of funds and managed-account solutions as well as advisory services for institutional and private investors.
Private debt has a broad structure – the market ranges from infrastructure and property loans to direct lending, mezzanine capital, distressed debt and special situations.
FERI attaches great importance to clear classification of risk-return objectives with the client in order to select the appropriate strategies. This is imperative due to the current very broad range of private debt.
The strengths and weaknesses of the asset class also play a role in our private debt allocation advisory services, as they differ greatly from the equity strategies of property, infrastructure and private equity. Here, private debt in the form of distributing strategies can be added to mature portfolios in order to increase the ongoing distribution capacity of the portfolios.
