FERI is a byword for comprehensive, individual, transparent and sustainable advice and support for private clients. With over 30 years of experience, we offer private investors a wide range of asset management services.

Sustainability is not only a socio-political imperative. For FERI, it also includes a clear commitment to shared social responsibility as a financial services provider. This is why FERI places the sustainable development goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations General Assembly (UN) at the forefront of sustainability considerations in all its investment solutions and advisory services.

With the help of an asset liability management study, FERI can show you whether a financing system in its current form is sustainable and whether sufficient risk carriers are available or whether a modification of the system is advisable.

During the transition to a sustainable future, FERI guides and supports you in the implementation of a sustainability concept and in the implementation and further development of existing solutions.

FERI’s comprehensive support ranges from optimal asset allocation and investment planning to appointing managers, reporting, monitoring and controls. Clear structures always ensure well-documented decisions and transparent investments.

FERI carries out a cost check in three steps and determines the costs for mandates, depositaries and investment management. In times of persistently low interest rates, these are a key factor in the performance of any portfolio.

FERI uses the three-step manager check to assess the quality and performance of asset managers.

FERI evaluates current portfolios in terms of expected returns and risk and checks whether the allocation still meets the requirements regarding yield and available risk budget. In addition, FERI presents you with alternative portfolios that promise higher returns with the same risk or offer similar opportunities for returns with reduced risk.

To ensure the success of the investment, FERI provides guidance on risk management processes. These range from the preparation of a risk manual and risk inventory to regular reporting and commentary.

In order to identify the risk sources and their distribution in the portfolio of an investment, FERI prepares a risk sheet, which makes this information transparent and clear. It clearly shows what share of the overall risk is attributable to the individual investment funds, segments and asset classes.

FERI offers its clients the entire process of investment consulting and has been continuously developing it since the 1990s. Thanks to its extensive experience, self-developed systems and access to almost 200 employees in all areas of the investment process, FERI creates significant added value for its clients through its range of consulting services.

The FERI family office is the strategy advisor for your assets. We offer services ranging from strategic asset planning, implementation consulting and results monitoring and controls, through risk management and asset protection strategies to sustainability consulting.

FERI Alternative Update - COVID-19 as a Test for Alternative Investments

Bad Homburg, 06/08/2020
from FERI
  • Growth in private equity interrupted only temporarily
  • Market-neutral hedge funds stand their ground

Alternative investments are intended to act as a stabilising element in extreme market phases and help to reduce the risks involved in capital investment. An initial assessment shows that the less liquid asset classes of private equity and hedge funds largely fulfilled this function during the first months of the corona crisis.

Through the corona pandemic, a deep global recession threatens the world economy for the first again time since the major financial crisis of 2008 and 2009. Many portfolio companies owned by private equity firms are also affected by this. It is not yet possible to predict how much company valuations will actually fall, as most M&A processes are currently on hold and many companies are finding it difficult to provide a reliable EBITDA forecast for 2020. But a look back at the big financial crisis should encourage investors. At that time, the transaction volume had also fallen sharply. Exit processes had to be postponed and the investments were held longer than originally planned. However, the private equity markets recovered relatively quickly and a large number of private equity managers emerged stronger from the financial crisis. A large number of analyses show that investments made between 2009 and 2012 generated some of the highest returns. "There are some indications that this pattern will now repeat itself. Overall, the growth of the private equity industry is likely to be only slowed down temporarily by the corona crisis," says Sven Czermin, Co-Head of Private Equity at FERI Trust. The fact that private equity investors have a lot of dry powder also speaks for a relatively fast recovery. As in the years after 2008, buyers are therefore likely to start looking for promising investments soon. "Particularly in primary transactions and smaller transactions, attractive buying opportunities could arise again for specialized investors in the coming months," explains Czermin. Many private equity houses have a high level of operational expertise and are able to identify trends and translate them into investments due to their specialization. Corona has also given the digital transformation a boost, so that technology investments currently offer attractive growth opportunities.

Hedge Funds Limit Losses

The corona crash did not stop at the hedge fund universe either, although the losses here were significantly lower than on the stock market. After the corona crash, for example, the broad hedge fund indices, with a minus of 7 percent, fell far less than the most important stock markets worldwide. Individual hedge fund strategies were even able to buck the negative trend. Global macro hedge funds, in which the management focuses on long-term overriding macroeconomic trends, performed particularly well. Arbitrage strategies, which speculate on price differences or the occurrence of certain events, have also produced good results for investors in recent months. "With hedge funds, it is always the performance of the individual strategy that counts. The diversity of investment concepts ensures that opportunities arise in practically every market constellation. You just have to select the right managers," says Marcus Storr, Head of Alternative Investments at FERI Trust.
