The nationwide non-profit education initiative WERTvoll macht Schule (formerly: Projekt KinderCash) promotes ethical values and financial skills at primary school level. The focus is on personality development, social abilities, media and financial competences along with sustainability issues. This is an initiative that we are happy to support since 2018.
You cannnot start early enough with thinking about sustainability - in this we totally agree with WERTvoll macht Schule. And that is why we are very pleased that the lesson "Plastic waste in our oceans" that we helped funding - which, by the way, is part of a whole set of topics on sustainability - is available on the material platform for teachers since the beginning of February 2021. The aim of the lesson is to make children aware of the problem of pollution in our oceans as early as possible. Above all, it discusses ways of doing something about it, even as a young person - in order to raise awareness of this important issue among tomorrow's decision-makers today.

Thanks to our donation in 2020, "WERTvoll macht Schule" was able to develop a lesson on the topic of clean oceans, with which even children of elementary school age can gain a sense of how essential the protection and preservation of the oceans is for the world and what they themselves can contribute. We are delighted that the initiative is able to present such an important topic in an understandable and creative way, even for the youngest schoolchildren.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which also form an important basis for FERI's work, serve as the foundation.
In 2019, we provided financial support to the education initiative for the development of an app to digitize the teaching program. Digital applications and media are now ubiquitous, whether at work or in our free time. Promoting media skills is thus becoming increasingly important in order to avoid excessive demands and pitfalls from the outset when using and applying new media. Schools have a special role to play here as a place of learning. "WERTvoll macht Schule" aims to provide support in precisely this area and uses its program to teach elementary school students important skills, including media skills. With the help of our donation, the initiative was able to develop the "WERTvoll" app, in which all of the program's materials can be accessed digitally.
Only those who are well informed can make independent and wise financial decisions for themselves. It is precisely this approach that FERI has been pursuing for over 30 years. As an investment firm with our own research division, we know from our daily work how important it is to be informed and not afraid to invest money. This is the only way to make the right decisions for asset accumulation and preservation.
We are therefore delighted that this project has brought the topic of dealing with money into an educationally valuable form in schools and families and have been supporting it since 2018.
In primary school, children from all social and cultural backgrounds come together. They often have different values – both tangible and intangible. This quickly leads to conflicts and confrontations and tensions are not uncommon, especially in connection with the subject of money. By promoting ethical values and financial education, the programme combines important skills that support children on their way to independence and have a positive influence on life in the community.
The children learn early on what different functions money has, how to divide it up and how to plan wisely, prudently and with foresight with the money available to them. This encourages a debate on consumption and advertising. The children take a close look at advertising and discuss the tricks it uses to tempt people to buy products or services. Reflecting on advertising and their own consumer behaviour encourages children to make self-determined buying decisions based on what is important to them, what they really need and what they can afford. In this context, children are also confronted with the importance of sustainability and recognise the impact their consumption behaviour can have on others and the environment.
